I took a few days’ break from writing the book proposal. While I’m really keen on finishing the proposal as soon as possible, I’ve also written quite a bit into it already. I felt that I needed to step back a bit, let it sit and look at it with fresh eyes after a few days.
I often find that letting long-term projects like this sit for a while lets me think about it in new ways, catch errors, and discover alternative approaches I didn’t think of before. While I set the proposal aside, I worked on a couple of other shorter projects: an article for Bright Hub and a submission for a baby magazine. The first is done and just awaiting approval. The second needs to be printed out and sent, which I will do today.
Meanwhile, I’m excited to be working on the proposal again. I really feel that the topic of the book is timely and very useful. As I write, I try not to entertain doubts – and there are a few that come – about the material or whether I’m the right person to write it. Its those times when I am away from the writing that these doubts appear. When I take a look at the material again, enthusiasm returns, as well as a firm belief that it can be done, and that I can do it. I do believe it will be hard work, but what writing isn’t?
